What is Glycolic acid Arbutin Kojic acid Cream?

The glycolic acid arbutin kojic acid cream is a dermatological medication that is for topical application only. It belongs to a group of medicines known as ‘skin lightening agents or depigmenting drugs’.

What are the uses of Glycolic Acid, Arbutin, and Kojic Acid Cream?

  • This medication is primarily prescribed to treat Melasma or hyperpigmentation which causes dark brown patches on the skin, liver spots, age spots, and freckles; due to certain birth control pills, hormonal medicine, pregnancy or any injury of the skin.
  • It is supposedly helpful in killing bacteria, reducing inflammation, and cleaning of blocked pores.
  • This medicine also contains sunscreens that help to prevent dark spots from reappearing due to exposure to sunlight.

How does a Glycolic Acid Arbutin Kojic Acid Cream work?

This dermatological cream contains glycolic acid, which works by increasing the turnover rate of epithelial cells or the cells that line the surface of the skin and eventually helps in the peeling of the skin and treating comedones that are skin-coloured, small bumps due to acne. It decomposes to release oxygen when applied to the skin. This oxygen acts as a bactericidal agent and kills Propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria that causes acne.

On the other side, Kojic acid prevents the production of tyrosine which is an amino acid required to produce melanin in the body.

Arbutin is known to have skin-lightening and de-pigmenting actions. It is helpful in preventing dark spots or fading them, leading to a more even complexion, and can also thus improve skin texture.

Common Side effects of Glycolic Acid Arbutin Kojic Acid Cream
