How do Pantoprazole and Domperidone Tablets work?

The two different components of this medication work in two different ways, as mentioned below:

  • Domperidone is a prokinetic which works on the upper digestive tract, in order to increase the movement of the stomach and intestines, which in turn allows the food to move more quickly through the stomach. It also effectively blocks the action of a vomiting center or the chemoreceptor trigger zone – CTZ, located in your brain, that is responsible for inducing the feeling of nausea and vomiting.
  • Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which in turn helps in the reduction of acid-related indigestion and heartburn. It helps in reducing stomach acid by blocking the actions of an enzyme (H+/K+ ATPase or gastric proton pump). This proton pump, located in the cells of the stomach wall, is responsible for the release of gastric acid secretion damaging tissues in the food pipe, stomach, and duodenum.
