What is Caffeine?

Caffeine is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant of the methylxanthine class. It is often found in analgesic drugs or agents. It is primarily used as a cognitive enhancer or Nootropic that helps in increasing alertness and attention, and is even useful in preventing or treating pulmonary complications of premature birth.

How does Caffeine work?

The mechanism of caffeine happens via the blocking of adenosine’s bond with the adenosine A1 receptor, which enhances release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. It also increases cyclic AMP levels via nonselective inhibition of phosphodiesterase.
