What is a Domperidone Capsule?
Domperidone is a dopamine receptor antagonist used as a peristaltic stimulant and anti-emetic agent for dyspepsia, indigestion, epigastric pain, and other gastrointestinal problems like gastroparesis or delayed gastric emptying, apart from controlling nausea, and vomiting. It is also used to induce and promote breast milk production.
How do Domperidone Capsules work?
Domperidone works by being a gastrointestinal emptying or delayed, supplementary and peristaltic stimulant. It's gastroprokinetic properties block the peripheral dopamine receptors.
This pharmaceutical drug is known for availing gastric emptying and reducing small bowel transit time, by increasing esophageal and gastric peristalsis, and by lowering esophageal sphincter pressure.
The antiemetic properties of domperidone are related to its dopamine receptor blocking capacity, at both the chemoreceptor trigger zone as well as at the gastric level. It has strong connection with the D2 and D3 dopamine receptors, which are found in the chemoreceptor trigger zone, located just outside the blood brain barrier, which is known to regulate nausea and vomiting.
