What is Terbinafine?

Terbinafine or Terbinafine hydrochloride is an antifungal pharmaceutical drug belongs to the family of allylamines medicines, that is commonly used to treat dermatophyte infections of toenails and fingernails, as well as some other fungal infections.

How is the mechanism of Terbinafine?

Terbinafine is known to work by reducing the ability of fungi to synthesize sterols. It is an allylamine antifungal that is supposed to inhibit squalene epoxidase, also known as squalene monooxygenase; to prevent the formation of ergosterol, by preventing the conversion of squalene to 2,3-oxydosqualene, and causes an accumulation of squalene, weakening the cell wall of fungal cells.
